There are internet dating sites, specifically geared toward people who are looking for marriage or a long term committed relationship, more now than when I used internet dating sites many years ago. On average, serious dating sites tend to attract people who are looking for commitment. The age range is usually older adults, 30 and over. It's no guarantee that you'll find someone to love, but it does make the numbers work in your favor a bit more.

Again, there are no guarantees, however the following 7 steps will go along way to a better outcome when you have very clear goals.

1 Choose a site that does not emphasize casual dating

Research for dating sites catering to the serious minded, looking for marriage or a long term committed relationship. These sites are moderated (entries and posts are supervised) and offer a compatibility pre-screening and/or criminal background checks.

2 Find a high quality paid membership dating site

There is a cost for quality services, and internet dating monthly memberships are no different. You should get services as mentioned in 1. In addition, by using a paid service, you'll eliminate annoying pop up ads as you are browsing the site. Plus, these sites require photos and credit card only payments for tracing purposes. Remember, this monthly fee is an investment in your future.

3 Take time creating your profile that is honest and accurate

Ensure there are no spelling or grammar errors. Write your profile in a serious, yet positive and upbeat style. If you're comfortable doing this, share it with a friend for feedback before submitting to site.

4 Indicate in your profile that you are looking for a long term committed relationship, or a committed relationship leading to marriage.

This will deter non serious inquiries. Note: Since men are visual and your photo will be their motivator for contacting you, you should still ask them to read your profile and then see if he contacts you for a second time. Or, if you have signed up for a compatibility pre-screening, be sure to include this in the profile questionnaire. Either way, this is another way of weeding out those only wanting casual relationships.

5 Be explicit and detailed regarding the type of man you are looking for

If you join a dating site that requires compatibility pre-screening, you will be matched

based on your character traits. Of course, this works best when you are completely honest answering the questionnaire about yourself.

6 Post a minimum of 2 current photos that are tasteful and classy.

Have someone take several images and post the most attractive ones. You could have one that is a face shot and a full-bodied one.

7 Dating sites using the pre-screening system, will provide you with matches, based on your profile questionnaire.

These pre-screened matches are based on how you completed your questionnaire. Therefore, If you've been honest in your answers, you should get good matches. At the end of the day, no one can guarantee that you will become a couple, because a computer does not recognize the variables. You still must apply your own evaluation to the person, regardless of what a computer says. Still, these matches, are worth the follow-up and many success stories have been reported; likewise, not all match-ups worked out.
